It's been one crazy first quarter of 2017 and as much as I'm enjoying it so far, it wouldn't be so if not for the struggles that comes with it. I've struggled with adjusting at my new work, new term in school (hello, financial management!), service in the community, having a social life, trying to maintain a weekly exercise, saving up but splurging at the same time, and balancing it all together is the craziest of them all.
But despite of it all, I finally found peace within and while doing these things and I've moved forward. I've struggled for the past years but now I think I am finally free. I've felt that I am no longer bound to the depths of the darkness that consumed me and I am slowly being carried to the place where I am meant to be all along - His. I still have some battles I need to overcome but seeing where I am now and where I used to be, I am confident that He will see me through. I know He will be there with me as I continue moving forward, just like when He stood by me during the tough times (even if I didn't pay attention or disregarded it completely).
My only prayer now is that I may continue to move forward, and get to know Him more as I do. As close as the Father is with His son. And I hope I could, with struggles and all.
With that, I now know what I could use this blog for. <3

Never too late to start over
So it's been a while since I've opened my blog. Partly because I'm a lazy girl who thinks it's too tedious to write, despite the fact how much I crave to write stories and things. Another one is because I've been caught up with so many things lately (hello, new work!) that I can't squeeze it in nor focus on it. But now that I'm here, I'll try my best (again!) to write about things. Really hoping I can push myself into posting more this year and me catching up to all the backlogged photos from last year is definitely a good sign. And I'm got a little motivated to post about my travels so hopefully (!!!) I can do that also. lol.

World Youth Day 2016: A Journey of a Pilgrim
So, it's been almost a week since I've come back home from Europe and from attending the World Youth Day. And it's been almost a week since I've tried to talk to myself to process everything and write it down here. I tried to think of how and what it should look like when other people read it. I want it to be inspiring or something that would be at least worth other people's time. But somehow, I have never tried to begin writing and prolong it. Now, however, I knew that the momentum of writing it will never happen until I start and whether it will make a difference to others is something I can no longer control. So here I am at two in the morning writing to try and share the experience (and because my body clock is still whacked).
I knew joining the World Youth Day would give me something to hope for, to bring back what I once felt - His love. And yet, He gave me more than that. More than His love, He showed me mercy, grace and hope using the places, the people, and the circumstances. Something I needed to start getting my life back on track. And I could feel the wheels are slowly turning. It was quite an unforgettable journey beginning from the Days of the Diocese in Legionowo and during the WYD proper. Life changing isn't even enough of a word to describe it.
DAYS IN THE DIOCESE - LEGIONOWO
The town that was assigned to host us was in the outskirts of Warsaw, Poland's main city, called Legionowo. It was the first time I heard about it and if not for this, I think I wouldn't even get a chance to know it in my lifetime. It was a small district but it had a heart big enough to welcome all of us pilgrims. Our host parish - St. Joseph, betrothed to the Virgin Mary - had some of the kindest and most hospitable people I've ever met. The volunteers, the priests and the host families welcomed us and accommodated us way more than we expected.
Although I did expect too much, I thought I would be in a family just like the others - with cars, big houses and cool family. Instead, I was hosted by two grandparents who do not speak English and likes walking - a lot. I suppressed my disappointment knowing that I should be grateful, and that God made it happen because it was all part of His plan. It was tough to communicate, but we managed. My housemate, Nike, and I call them Lolo and Lola since it was tough to pronounce their names. They're lives were simple, and it taught me humility. That life is beautiful in its simplicity - without the glitz and the glamour that the world is telling us to aspire for. It taught me that I should be grateful for the things I have in my life, as it was already more than what others have. And spending time with them was really an effort - something I realized I needed to do. If I could make an effort just to speak to them in Polish, what more with my family that were miles away. Being with Lolo and Lola gave my heart the much-needed push (and exercise!).
For a week, they prepared activities to keep us busy and for us to get to know their culture, history and people. We had tours, concerts, polish dance lessons, film viewing, sports festival, and even a disco night! What struck me the most was the film about the life of Karol Wojtyla, before he became known as St. John Paul II. I was immensely touched by his story, as I knew him only as the Pope before he became a saint. All along, he, too, was just like us who had big dreams and followed God's calling. Who would have thought that a student like him could change the lives of his country? He who only sees the good in people and forgives those who have wronged him, he who had nothing still didn't give up hope and fought for his beliefs and his country. His life was so monumental and it's what I hope my life would impart or at least even a little bit.
It was tiring indeed, but the energy we lost was replaced instantly by the friendships we've built in the small community. The volunteers, who warmly welcomed us and helped us with our needs, became our friends through a bond that is shared in Christ. The cheers and laughter that echo throughout the town as we walk along the streets, the Polish words and songs we try to learn and the Filipino words we try to teach, the numerous photos we had when one is never enough, the tears we shed as we parted ways only to be dedicatedly reunited in Krakow, these are the moments when the only language we needed was love - His love.
WORLD YOUTH DAY 2016 - KRAKOW
Leaving Legionowo was difficult as we have come to love the place and the people but it was time for us to continue the pilgrimage we have set out to do. We arrived in Krakow Glowny filled with excitement as the World Youth Day officially commences. Our next host parish, St. Michael the Archangel, was a challenge to go to, however. We were relocated in a farther town of Wielickza, where the last station of the train is. We are also housed to a family who lived in a town next to Pawlikowice, who was kind and did their best to welcome us. It was an enduring walk from our house going to the parish and then to the city of Krakow but fortunately, the long walks with our Lolo prepared me for what is to come. I surely couldn't have survived it if not for the exercise I had back in Legionowo. Indeed, God really had it all planned.
Our time in our parish was longer than the others as we were chosen to serve for the catechesis. It cut out our time to experience the city and the youth festivals but I was happy to be able to serve and to listen to the words of the priests, which includes our very own Cardinal Tagle. We even saw the installation of my guardian angel St. Michael the Archangel's statue in our parish. Unfortunately, my body's condition was not good which led me to stay in a hospital for a day, had a fever and an almost sprained ankle. But I understood what He was doing to me that time, He was challenging me to my limits as to how far am I willing to give for Him. And I was ready to give everything I've got. I fought the exhaustion and fatigue in order for me to hear His message. All of it was worth it when we got to see a glimpse of Pope Francis and when we listen to his messages for us. The speeches and homilies he gave pierced through my heart and it was the moment I had prayed for. The moment I could feel Him back in my life again.
It's a life-changing experience for me, and words will never be enough to express how I felt, but here are some of the things that God shared to me through Pope Francis:
Mercy and Forgiveness
It was hard for me to accept the reality of what my life had become. It was harder to accept that I let it happen - my actions, decisions, and choices made it so. Not only was I consumed by the stress of the world around me; I was also in a battle with myself. My mind was always pre-occupied by negative thoughts and it ate me up deep inside.
Things started to change from the moment we had our preparatory session for the World Youth Day. I was able to have a good confession. Something I haven't done for the past years. I felt relieved and the burden I was carrying started to become lighter. And upon hearing Pope Francis' homily during the opening mass, I felt His mercy. "In the art of climbing, it is not important to not fall, but to not remain fallen", he said. I felt Him saying that I was forgiven, and that it was time for me to forgive myself. It also taught me to forgive those that have hurt me or caused me pain, to accept others' mistakes and shortcomings and the fact that there will be people out there who are causing others' so much suffering, but we can only love them and forgive them. Just as the theme says, "Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy".
Healing and Grace
As I have received mercy, I felt my heart and my mind's posture had changed. I have finally felt the peace that I longed for. I found it in Him. No matter where I looked before, it still made me empty. Now, my heart is full. "Begin to let yourself move on", He said to me during the opening mass. He knew that my heart can no longer come back to the darkness it was in and it is time for me to step into His light. It was my sign to leave the past behind, to let go of the things that hurt me, and to free myself from those that saddens me. It was the affirmation of the decision I have been discerning for the past months. And I felt no regret. He has healed me from the worries and the suffering I endured. Now He is allowing me to continue and use my life to share His mercy.
During the vigil, I had another chance to confess. The priest told me that when we confess, God gives us two things: First, is the absolution and forgiveness of our sin, second, the grace to continue living. We are all sinners, but our sins should not hinder us in serving the Lord. We should not be afraid to come back if we have sinned. If we are, He will patiently wait for you. He will not force you even if it breaks His heart. But yes, He is merciful. He forgives. Thus, when the time comes, all we have to do is ask for it and admit that we need Him. Then we can keep living our lives in His image again. We are to continue our pursuit to live like Christ despite our faults.
Hope and Courage
Hope. This is what Pope Francis kept on telling us during the whole event. It is the purpose of gathering everyone from all over the world. To show that there is hope, to show that the youth is the hope, and we, as the youth, need to share this hope to everyone. We need to be the sowers of hope. As Pope Francis mentioned during the Way of the Cross, it is the way to happiness, but it is also a way of personal effort and self-sacrifice. It is a way that does not fear failure and marginalization, even in the world that is unjust and corrupt. Life lived through the way of the cross gives rise to the light of Christ. We are to become the hope that this world needs. We need to forgive others and instead give joy to those who are unhappy. We are to unite in prayer and empathize with those who are suffering. We are called to respond through fraternity. We need to build bridges and not walls. We are to awaken ourselves from slumber and stand up to walk the path He has set out for us, no longer afraid of the darkness of the world.
Now that my life is slowly coming around, I give it to Him for I am filled with His hope, mercy and love. And I know He wants me to share it. I lay it down to Him whatever my future will be. He gives me courage to take on this new chapter in my life. He is merciful. He is love.
"Life is beautiful as long as we want to love it, as long as we leave a mark."

Hello, Quarter Life!
Guess it's time to accept that I am a quarter of a century old. As I look back these past few years living as an "adult" living in the "real world", I realized that quarter-life crisis was real. Like REAL. Here were some of my stories how that said crisis happened:
21 was the year you got out of college and you are allowed to explore the opportunities, as well as get your ideal world broken by life's hardships. You applied to that dream job of yours only to wait for a call that will never come. Then you end up to a not-so-bad job with a not-so-good salary which you spent on worthless things just because it's your OWN hard-earned money.
22 was the year for fun and adventure and never-ending parties. You got the hang of balancing your life between friends, families versus work and mastered the art of coming straight to work after partying all night - with or without hangovers.
23 was the year of feeling exhausted from the year before and it made you indifferent and stressed all the time. You slowly drift away and just to normal things and start losing your "true" self. You stopped caring altogether and became a robot.
24 was the year for pushing yourself forward and making things happen after a year in the dark. You decided that nothing will happen if you didn't do anything. Go book that ticket/s and travel the world. Take that class that you want. Talk to a friend you haven't seen for a long time. Expand your circle, meet new people.
This can just be me or someone else is feeling the same. Maybe it's because I am getting older and slowly becoming this old lady with a lot of cats, though I much prefer dogs. lol. 25 ain't that bad - yet. :)

Random thoughts 09-20
I've longed for the day to finally meet the person I will be falling in love with and I know that he won't be coming anytime soon so long until everything in my life will fall into place and he will be the last rose petal to drop. I know I've got to find myself first, come clean with my baggages and get it together before he arrives. And I know it will be a really long wait. But I've got no choice than to deal with it. And like the child that I am, I tend to become impatient, insecure and afraid of the uncertainty of him really ever coming. Still, I am proud to say that I never did anything (bad, I mean) to distract myself while he's on his way. I am doing the best I could to be the best version of myself. But to no avail, I have yet to gain a step closer. Therefore, it goes to my conclusion that it'll take some time before he gets here. And I have yet to know what will happen when it does. And it scares me.

T-minus 6 hours
So, I still can't believe that in just a few hours, 2013 is gonna end and we're moving on to the next year. I'm still overwhelmed by the moments and experiences that I had this wonderful year. It is really one heck of a year, a roller coaster ride. If last year was a stressful year, this year is much much more. haha. Here's 3 things that can probably describe my 2013:
1. Changes
I think this year has been a year of changes. Changes that I had to go through to learn, grow and discover. I quit my first job and spent 6 months as a bum. I was allowed by my parents to spend the summer travelling abroad. Visited and spent time with relatives I never got a chance to see. Met new people, saw new places (i.e. the Hampton! lol) and ate a lot. My brother now went to college. Finally got a new job at a great company. And even going on a mission trips outside the city. But the best change that ever happened was when I start to see things differently. Getting a new perspective and being wiser in the way I see things, people and places, and even the experiences that I am able to experience. It was always hard for me to accept change when it happens, I admit. I always try and keep things the way they were inside my head. But by allowing it to happen and accepting the differences that goes on as I grow older, it made me realize that I, too, did change and grew up. That I was not the same person as I was before. And I am grateful for these experiences that made me who I am now and brought me where I am meant to be.

2. Challenges
Not only did change brought a good deal of amazing experiences, it also came with a lot of challenges that I had to conquer to embrace the change. This year was indeed fun, but it wasn't always happy. I'm thankful that I am able to get through the challenges that came this year. From something as simple as being broke, freezing to death in a new city, 13-hour bus ride to AZ, having a "buwis-buhay" moment every single day. To tougher times like being away from my family and being alone miles away, getting dengue after coming home, drowning my iPad, hitting a car and my own, and to my grandmother passing away (also some of my friends' loved ones). It's these times that I was able to hold myself together and learn how to be strong to get through it not only for myself but for my loved ones.
3. Faith
Of course, everything wouldn't be possible without God and this year was really all about faith. How my faith in Him grew more through the changes and the challenges that came. I know I'm far from becoming the best version of who He wants me to be but I'm definitely sure that I'm on my way. Experiencing our community's conferences and being able to serve and be part of it gave me different realizations and slowly understood His plans for me. And it's amazing how faith makes you suddenly see the bigger picture and understand the wisdom of the purpose of each and every situations in your life.
Thus, by ending 2013, we're about to take on new changes and challenges that can keep our faith and relationship with Him grow. It's hard to believe that all those things happened in just a year and it will soon come to an end then we're about to face a new beginning. But that's just how it is. We shall embrace and accept whatever it is that's about to come.

Here's to new beginnings... Again
After graduating from college whilst sporting a long hair almost often (my hair grows fast, quite a blessing) only switching from my natural curls to a straight hair, I told myself that I'll have to cut it every year and I'll be keeping my curly locks and black hair too. It's been 2 years since and I've cut my long hair short twice already and just now, the third. Sorry, I'm too shy to share a photo! x)
I always cut it during the summer season, April, and it never failed to amaze me that in just one year, it'll grow just as long as when I was just about to cut it the year before. Unfortunately, last April, I was too busy to go and visit a salon since I was preparing for my resignation and my summer trip. Even in New York, I wasn't able to have it cut, well, because it was ridiculously expensive. haha. And I liked my locks. So I waited for the perfect moment to shorten it - my new job.
Since I'll be starting on my new job this coming Monday, I might as well start my life's new chapter with a new do to match. I'm pretty sure my new boss will be surprised that I don't look like the girl they hired. lol. But yeah, I look forward to work with them and not be a bum anymore. Yay!
Also, this might be the last update I can do for a while. I might be busy with work and all. But I'll still do try to write as much as I can. :)

Are You Worth It?
It's been days since I thought about this topic and I've been meaning to write about it until now, so here I am wanting to share my thoughts about our worth, your worth as a person living in this crazy messed-up world.
Sometimes, we find ourselves thinking how much are we really worth? Not just monetarily but also in terms of our value in the society. Thus, we search for our purpose and work our way into reaching our dreams and goals, our accomplishments and see what we have achieved and worked hard for once we've succeeded. And we think, all those struggles, hardships, sweat, and tears are definitely worth it and that adds to our value as a person.
Surely it's not the first time that someone say to you that you're worth it, or you're definitely worth more than that (whatever that is). And we make ourselves to believe that we are something of value; that we deserve what we have, what we ought to have, or believe someone say that you're valuable, and worth all the sacrifice. Yes, it's good to know what our worth is, what we deserve in this life, but it's not just the task of finding and proving you're worth something. What's also as important is getting people to see you're real worth.
Sometimes it's hard to show to everyone what your real worth is. And the reason why might be:
a. You close yourself to the idea that life has so much more to offer. Your perspective may be a little bit limited and you've closed yourself to the amazing possibilities that life can bring. You may be focusing too much on life's shortcomings and negativities and couldn't see beyond the issues that you are facing. There's always a good side in every situation. Try to find it. Don't you let the drama define your life, it will make others think you're just that - full of issues and drama.
b. You settle for whatever life brings - or what it doesn't. You're contented with your life, which is a good thing, but you don't aspire for more. You're okay with being in a job with a stable salary but stagnant growth. You think that it's better than to quit and face the troublesome of task of starting over, that pursuing your passion is a risk that only the brave ones take - and you're not one of them. If you don't chase after it, trust me, it absolutely won't chase after you, regret will. People won't see your potential, your skills and talent, only that you could've been worth something if you tried.
c. You don't believe you deserve all of it. You think you have so much that it's too good. That your boss seeing your dedication to your work all these years won you a break, a week off to yourself, doesn't matter and would rather focus on your work. You're not confident enough to accept your real worth and think that you don't deserve the things that come at you when other people notice. You become a decliner of life's grandeur and sooner or later, it will get tired of giving you chances and will hand it to others instead.
d. You think you deserve everything. Contrary to b, you believe too much that you deserve more. You deserve a break, an increase, a company car, etc. You nag on and whine to everyone that you are worth more that what your bosses think when in reality, they've already given you what you deserve, you just don't see it because you're too full of yourself. Have you even finished the project they assigned to you? Before you start complaining, do your tasks perfectly first so you have something to back you up when you request for that salary increase. And who knows, it might even land you a promotion.
So, maybe you are worth more, less, or just right. It's hard to know since our lives changes, gradually or instantly, and so does our worth. What's important is that you keep track of who you are and what you think your value is. If you know you're real worth, I'm sure life will take notice and give you things that you truly deserve and even more.
*These are just at the top of my head and are purely based on my assumptions and deduction of others. Some I just blurted out from my mind some I can relate from experience. I didn't even thought of listing down things when I said I wanted to write about the topic. So yeah, this is just me trying sound wise in cyberspace and most importantly, fulfilling my obligation to my boring blog.

Another whirlwind of adventures
I'm back after 4 months and I'm back in Manila. It's been quite crazy this past few months that I wasn't able to think about blogging. It's still quite hard to make it as a habit since it's more tedious than Facebook, Instagram or Twitter (Follow me, btw!). So yeah. I'll try (for the nth time) to go back here more while I'm still unemployed. HAHA.
But for now, here's a quote I wrote for those who are experiencing life a little bit harder than usual, just like me.

Xo,
Life's full of problems, pain, struggles and sufferings, but that's where you'll find Christ the most. When you surrender it all to Him and find His love in the most difficult circumstances in your life, that's where you'll be at peace then faith, hope and love will be your strongest weapon.

Nothing's Changed
So, I guess going here alone in New York didn't mean I'd get to have total freedom. But at least I was expecting to get a little more than what I had back home. I know that I am restricted due to obvious reasons like not being familiar with the place and the people around here, but don't I at least get their trust or even their assurance that I'm old enough to take care of myself? I mean, isn't that the whole point of this whole trip? To get a shot of being free, of being independent and proving that I can do things on my own without them having to worry about me?
I understand the issues that they are concerned about. I get it. But can everyone just stay calm and chill for a moment. These are the kind of moments where I wish they didn't care. That they would just let me be on my own not when they let me out the whole day to go around the city by myself and expect me to come back at 5. Isn't it the same thing? I know they are worried, but please. I've been through more than this. If ever something does happen, then it happens. Maybe that, too, is part of God's plan isn't it?
I just need to vent this one out. Truly, I am sorry making them wait. But I'm not sorry for living my life the way I want it to.

Perfect timing!
So, it's been 20 days since I got here in New York, and everyday just keeps on getting better and better. Well, somedays, it's just normal. lol. And today was the best! But before that, I'll share with you guys what I've been doing this past week. :)
On my 2nd weekend here, my aunt Marilou invited me to go with them upstate for her friend's surprise birthday party. I went with them even if I got an email requesting for an interview for an internship that Sunday. I did asked to be rescheduled (Who does interviews on a Sunday anyway!?) but they didn't reply. It was worth it though. Over the trip, I've been to a lot of towns here in New York. It's not just the city that's nice here. The other places I've been were small towns and very nice places to live in. And I got a chance to know my aunt's boyfriend, Frank, who drove all the way to Ancram for 5 hours and back to the city for like 8 hours (yeah, we got lost haha). He was really nice and my aunt seems happy with him and so is Pasha, their dog.
And after that the week became boring. Just kidding. I went to work as usual and even extended it until Thursday since I don't have anything else to do. The fun thing about interning is that I get to spend more time with my aunt and she takes me to different restaurants everyday!
Then last Friday, I went out to go around Times Square. I went gaga over the sale at H&M and Forever 21 that I spent all the money that I have that day! And what's more, my Metrocard ran out of balance and I don't have any change left. So I walked for 20 blocks back to my lola's store. :(
I also found out that the article I wrote the week before I left got published already! And it got more than 30,000 views in just a day! Check it out here!
And today has been THE BEST DAY EVER! I got an email last Friday saying that I got an interview at Akris, an international brand that's been providing amazing designs for over 90 years and is at Paris fashion week ever since 2002. I went to their office at Madison Ave. this afternoon, and after being so nervous over the weekend, I was interviewed by their PR coordinator and I get to start on Monday! It was so quick! I wasn't even in the store for like 10 minutes! I'm not complaining! I was so happy that I couldn't even get the smile out of my face while I was walking in the rain back to my lola's store. Truly, everything happens according to God's perfect plan. Can't wait to start next week!
I'll be meeting SFL's from New York this Friday and will finally be attending a CLS! I'm now accepting the fact that I'm old. LOL.
So far, that's it. 3 weeks down and 4 to go. I know it'll just keep on getting better and better!

Then last Saturday, I tagged along my lolas and attended a seminar for new Filipino immigrants who wants to find a job here according to their field. It's a very useful organization that would be beneficial to Filipinos who took survival jobs here just for the salary that's bigger than their professional salary. You can check it out at www.upwardlyglobal.org. After that, we had dinner at Perlas restaurant to watch Stephanie Reese's concert who apparently is a popular singer here and in the Philippines. Maybe I'm just not that into music other than what I occasionally hear that I don't seem to know who she is. But she is quite popular in the Filipino community here in New York. And she is a very good singer. I think she was in a broadway show or something. But she is really amazing.

On to new beginnings
After a day of stressful packing, and no sleep, I began my 20-hour flight to my 2nd home, New York City. I can barely contain my excitement as I board the plane, but I also felt sad that I had to leave my family behind. Then again, I must do this on my own. I don't know what new life awaits me here during my stay but I trust Him to lead me and guide me to whatever His plan is. And my new life officially begins tomorrow (or later) and I can't wait!
Here are some photos during my flight going here:

Faith Works Wonders
Since I've revived my blog a few days ago, I might as well take the chance to keep it running while I am still in the moment. lol. And last night, while having a household (for those who aren't familiar, it's sort of like a support group), our topic was about next year's theme of our community as well as the Church, towards the year of faith.
While our head was talking about it and concluding the discussion, it suddenly came into my head that this is something worth writing about. Not just because of it being the theme and all nor because it was a good discussion last night. It was because God made me view it in a different way. Well, it's still the same but in a different context of how it is explained and what it means, for me.
So, Faith. Works. Wonders. Three words with big meanings behind all of it. But I'll just share what it meant to me when I came to hear it last night.
FAITH.
It's our belief in God. It's what we hold on to when things get tough. Hearing it last night, faith, for me, is the beginning of God's mighty love for us that will transform us and our lives will never be the same again. It's surrendering everything to Him - all the happiness, pain, dreams and desires - our whole life in general. Once we surrender it all, and let our faith guide us in our journey, the next word is about to begin.
WORKS.
It means actions. It's easy to have faith and to surrender it all. But actually doing it? Think again. Walking the talk is as hard as it is to control your craving when you're in a diet. lol. But really, it's hard to live a righteous life following His and proclaim and testify one's faith to everyone. Especially in this day and age where secularism and liberalism is widely promoted. Having to stand for one's faith is a life-long battle against oneself and the evil one who tempts you with all the earthly desires and possessions. So following your faith and doing His work in our lives, and to others as well, really means a lot and is really something to show how to fully surrender everything to Him.
WONDERS.
To put it simply, it's seeing God's blessings in our lives, no matter how big or small. How He blesses us so much with His love by giving us something to appreciate the life He gave to us. From little things to enjoy to the miracles He shows us is truly worth all the hardships that we have to face. All that we need is to surrender it to Him.
See what I'm trying to say? Well, here's a simple equation to summarize my complicated thoughts:

No other life like this.
Has it happened to you that moment where you suddenly realized something and everything made sense? Where you suddenly had that "Eureka!" moment and felt like you've solve the world's hunger problem? Have you ever thought that it was God who talked to you and put that information in your head at that perfect time? Spiritual matters or not? That it was Him who gave you that wisdom you never had before.
I did. And I never did expect that He will be talking to me in such a special way - right in front of me, face to face.
Okay, not literally, but figuratively and spiritually speaking, it was Him. I know it is.
Flashback to how I was before the Youthfest started (and ended), for the past few months, I've struggled with my spiritual growth - or lack of, I say. It's been really stressful with how busy I am at my workplace, how everything just kept piling and piling up. Work, family, service, social life, hobbies and sleep, there wasn't enough time for me to really have a talk with Him. Even my prayer time was screwed. I know it's such a cliche excuse to be busy, when I've got the time to do other things. But it's also because I didn't even took an effort into doing it. I chose to stay away from Him feeling ashamed that I have not been a good servant and even start to question and doubt my principles yet again.
Like what usually happens, heavy feelings are placed in me whenever a big community event is coming up. Tasks became obligations and obligations became a burden. It kept piling up until I can no longer handle the stress and the pressure and all I can do is sulk by myself thinking no one can help me. I started questioning what's the point of all these things that I'm doing. That why must I stress myself about it? Why can't I just leave it be? More and more reasons came to my mind that makes me want to run far away and forget everything. Even my dream that I realized was one of His dreams for me too became an escape. I treated it like I deserve it thus it must happen and it must go according to my plan. I was so absorbed into all the drama in my life that I forgot He existed. That He has the control over my life. That I needed Him to straighten out my problems. That only He can change my life.
With all these things going on inside my head, I thought yesterday was just an ordinary day for me. Yes it was the Youthfest but I was more eager for it to be done and over and get some rest. It had been a tiring day, doing all the tasks assigned to me, being busy going around etc. I wasn't interested in the whole thing.
But it did change me when I felt Him trying to talk to me. Trying to work it out against my brain and my rationality. While listening to the sessions and watching the performances, I knew deep down that all of it struck me. Some-if not most- are happening in my life right there and then. I knew that it was wrong and I knew that I have to change. I want to change. But there was this battle over my head just like in TV where there's an angel (or probably my consciousness) telling me to do the right thing and then there's this evil thing (I don't wanna say the "D" word because I feel it's too evil of a word lol) giving me questions to doubt like why change when you'll be back in the same spot a few months later? It's such a stressful argument and I don't know who to give the score to.
When I know that the latter was winning, since I know my heart wasn't even at the right posture for the occasion, it was where He proved to me that He will still fight for me and that He will never let go. That was when it was time for the exposition of the Holy Eucharist. Like the previous events, I know that it is a very important moment and that there will be a segment where the leaders will be going up on stage to have the privilege of being near Him. But I never knew that I, too, will be part of it. And just like before, I questioned if I should go up, if I even deserve to go up because there are others who are far more deserving, I'm sure. But since we must, I walked up and find my spot.
Right there and then I realized that He indeed was talking to me.
At that moment, He told me that "no matter if you do not forgive yourself for sinning, remember that I have already forgiven you. I have and always will be here for you. Never turn away because of your mistakes, be brave and learn from it. Let Me be your strength in times of pain and hardships. Hold on to Me as I hold on to you. Never forget that I love you the most." It may not be the exact words He did say to me but the point is, He is right there and after so many days and weeks of not hearing Him, He was there. It was so clear that it made me cry my heart out for Him. To say that I am really grateful for His mercy. And that I shall continue to strive hard to become who He wants me to be. Someone He will be proud of, or rather, I will be proud of to say that it was Him behind all of me. And that no matter what happens, even when I fall down and sin once again, I know that it will not matter because He will always be there for me to help me be better, to mold me to His own likeness, to use me to according to His will, to use my mistakes and lessons as an inspiration for others to know Him more, and to make me as a testimony of His great love for us.
Needless to say, I was brought back up by His love after that and He ended my day in a good way. I know that I am far from being healed and being who He wants me to be. I know there will be more challenges coming and I know that I will make mistakes and sin over and over, but I will strive to change and live out like Jesus Christ did, and eventually, share Christ's life and how He can change other people's lives like He did mine.
Xo,
L.

Featured!
I can't believe I got featured in a newspaper twice in just a week! It's so amazing and funny at the same time. I don't know why I find it funny though. Now I know how celebrities feel when their in the paper. LOL.
Anyway, the first one was on Manila Bulletin last June 29, 2012. My work which I styled with my partner, Kerstie, during our Fashion Styling workshop with Eric Poliquit at Raffles Design Institute Manila got featured for a press release for the said school. It was one of the looks we did for our last shoot which was an editorial. Sadly, I didn't get credited for it. It's ironic though that one of the most important thing I learned during that workshop was to never forget to give credit to those who deserve it. Oh well, I guess it's part of the experience.
Next up, I got featured (Well, at least my back did. And now I know why I find it funny. HAHA) in Philippine Star last Friday, July 6, 2012 together and shaking hands with top fashion blogger and stylist, Ms. Tricia Gosingtian for SM Mall of Asia's End of Season Sale campaign. Meeting her was so awesome. She was so nice and friendly to me. She even featured our store in her blog. Do check it out! I still can't believe that my arms are in the photo. I wish they could have chosen a photo with my face being seen, at least. HAHA! It was such a nice experience all in all. :)
Although I wasn't acknowledged in both feature, I know truthfully that it was me and my work that's in it so it's all good. :)

Headpiece Challenge Teaser
Here's a teaser for our 3rd shoot's challenge: Head piece!
For our 3rd shoot last Saturday, we did a menswear shoot with a trend of our choice and made two looks for it. Not knowing what the challenge was, we thought it might be sort of similar with our last challenge which was editing. But instead, we were surprised to find out that we need not create another look, but a headpiece for a portrait shot. It's been really a panic-filled day since I had no idea where I will be getting a unique headpiece with just having brought a few clothes for guys. Fortunately, I was able to think of an inspiration and got a tool skirt and used it as a headpiece and made it like those of the native American Indians. I was able to breathe after doing it and it was kind of fun, panicking like that. LOL.

The Hunger Games
Disclaimer: I'm writing this not because it's so popular and all but because I want to just share some of my views about the book that made an impact almost as huge as the Harry Potter series. Sorry if there will be spoilers from the movie as well.
I've known the book for a long time and reading it was amazing. From the beginning to the very end of it. Everything was mind-blowing and you will really see that it was written perfectly and strategically. And based from all the promotions since announcing of a movie being produced for the book made an incredible hype and sensation to every fan. From slowly disclosing who the characters will be to its red carpet premiere, everyone is so excited and awaits for it to come to the big screen.
Personally, from knowing who the actors and actresses are, I was already not convinced of the selection since I have some others in mind. I imagined Britt Robertson (The Secret Circle, Life Unexpected) to play as Katniss, if only she was taller; Alex Pettyfer as Peeta and I can see Josh Hutcherson as Gale. But who am I to judge?
Jennifer Lawrence did justify her being chosen as the heroine. However, the chemistry between her and Josh Hutcherson did not fully present how intense it is as in the movies. I guess it is because they are trying hard to make it rate to PG-13. Still, there isn't much sweetness going on.
Here comes the spoilers!
It's disappointing to know that of all the few stories they had to remove from the book, they removed the scene where it was Madge who gave Katniss the pin. Even Madge was ruled out of the picture (Guess that means their small part in Mockingjay will be gone too). She only found it and got it from the Hob where it was given to her for free. The pin's symbolism totally lost its essence and made it look cheap and not unique.
Another one would be the special moment between Katniss and Peeta during the games. I really couldn't see that hot and amazing chemistry between those two as I did in reading the book. They even cut the part wherein Peeta bathe in the river. I was even excited for that. LOL. And the scene inside the shelter? I felt they fast-forward it and not really gave that much awe.
On a positive note, I enjoyed the comedy stints they've put in the movie. Although it was really subtle, it's a hit with everyone since a story as serious as that needed it. Cinna's creations were executed perfectly and even better than what I expected it. Well, it's hard to even imagine such technology to be even put to an outfit in this lifetime. But who knows, they might be able to create it in just a year or two. Fashion is fashion.
Cinematography-wise, I have no objections. Lionsgate makes awesome movies way back as far as I can remember. I just wished they filmed the fight scenes as violent and as gruesome as the book. But then again, they wanted it to be a PG-13 movie. I do hope they release an unrated/uncut version in DVD. I'd definitely buy those!
All in all, I give The Hunger Games a ★★★★. Can't wait to see Catching Fire in November 2013!
For those who haven't watched it here's a trailer. :)

Another Challenge!
Like what I said in my earlier post, our second shoot will be a trend of our own. And the second challenge will be to only have a certain number of pieces in our second look. Upon seeing the photos, I wasn't that pleased with what I've done and I know I could do better. Still, I know I could still learn and this is just part of the experience.
Special thanks to:
Inez Amante of The Socialite for letting me borrow amazing pairs of shoes again, and even her personal stuff too!
Cheenee Delos Reyes of Annaccessories for creating another set of amazing necklace!
And lastly, to Ms. Jen of The Posh Wardrobe.

Again, here's our team's set for the challenge. For individual shots, you may visit our mentor, Eric Poliquit’s blog: www.folioofastylist.blogspot.com

Crazy tangerine
So, for our second shoot last Saturday, we are given the freedom of choosing whatever trend we want. I chose to try color blocking since I noticed that a lot of new colors are popular this season. I matched tangerine or orange and blue. Yes, I know that it's been done before but it really suits the season and brights are so in this year.
Also, it's a big step for me to actually be able to pull out items from an actual shop! I managed to borrow an item at The Posh Wardrobe in Rockwell. I was supposed to get another one from a designer but due to lack of time (since I do have a daytime job) I have to drop it and think of a different look.
For my first look, I matched a blue bandeau with a pumpkin-colored maxi skirt from The Posh Wardrobe paired with a blue wedge from The Socialite. Sorry I forgot to take a photo, again!
For this week's challenge, we drew lots and in it was a number. We had no idea what it meant and Eric didn't explain it after we're done with our first look and right before we shot our second. Since the challenge was about editing, he let us fix our second look, then he explained that the number we picked is the number of pieces that we can only use for the second look. Good thing I picked 6! Aside from the corset, the skirt and the shoes, I managed to save 2 accessories and the hat. Oh boy, was I shocked about it. I thought that we only have to remove 6 pieces not leave them. But, it still ended well. :)

Extra challenge!
Finally! Our mentors released the photos from our last week's shoot already. Though it's only from our extra challenge. The real themed shots will be given at the end of the workshop. Still, seeing this photo makes me so incredibly happy. My first shot as a stylist and it looked so beautiful. I'm super happy and proud of how everything turned out. I mean it looked so good that it could even pass for a magazine's page (that might be an exaggeration, but heck, I felt it was really like one)!

This was done under time pressure with only 5 minutes to change from the given theme and create a different look using some fabrics and accessories given inside the studio. I made it into a jumpsuit which I felt was the best style for the model and the shoes. I chose the brown fabric to retain my theme from the first look which is metallic.
Many thanks to:
Inez Amante of The Socialite for lending me, a random girl who just asked out of nowhere, your amazing pair of shoes. I really love it! I want a pair of those but I don't know where should I wear them. :P
Cheenee Delos Reyes of Annaccessories for making that necklace especially for the shoot. Also for the other accessories you will be lending me in the future. :D
Here's my batchmates' works as well. :)
